Information for Poster Presenters

The organising committee are pleased to announce that a copy of the of The Manual of Clinical Microbiologyand (9th edition) and author signed copies of Diagnostic Medical Parasitology (5th edition) and Infectious Diseases – Atlas, Cases, Text will be made available as prizes for the best poster presentations at the meeting

Posters Submission process

The meeting organisers welcome posters relating to Parasitology and Tropical Medicine. To submit a poster, please read the below instructions carefully and ensure that your poster conforms to the appropriate formatting and other requirements. Please download the poster submission file and e-mail this information with your completed abstract to the e-mail address listed on the poster submission form, from which it will be forwarded for peer review. All submissions will receive a decision by mid June.

Abstracts

  1. Abstracts and completed submission forms should be submitted by e-mail to: mail@thefullpretzel.com.au; abstracts sent to the conference organisers by fax, mail or other method will be not be accepted.  All abstracts must be original work. The dealine for submission is the 31st May 2010.

  2. You have to be registered for the conference before you can submit an abstract.  Although your registration payment can be made at a later date, it must be fully paid by 31 May 2010. Full refunds are available if your abstract is not accepted and you decide that you don't want to attend the conference.
    Note that: Acceptance of your abstract does not constitute an entitlement for registration funding from the conference.

  3. The abstract submitter will be acknowledged as being the Presenting Author unless advised otherwise - there can only be one Presenting Author. Multiple abstracts per presenting author are permitted.

  4. Abstract Review Results (ie. whether your abstract has been accepted or not) will be emailed to the submitter by mid-June 2010.  It is the responsibility of the submitter to ensure they receive this emailed communication.

  5. Successful abstracts received by the deadline date will be published in the Program & Abstracts Book - by submitting your abstract you give permission for such publication.

Content of an Abstract

  • The purpose of the abstract is to define the precise subject of the presentation to an audience. It is unsatisfactory to state that results will be presented or discussed at the conference - these abstracts may be subject to rejection.

  • An abstract should not be a formal publication.

  • Tables, figures, literature references and acknowledgements should not form any part of the abstract's content.

Abstract Formatting Instructions

Page Set-Up
  • MS word document - A4
  • No headers/footers
Title
  • Use Title Case (give each significant word a capital letter)
  • No full stop at end of title
  • Bold font
Text / Body
  • 300 words max (200 words min) for abstract body
  • Arial font - 9 point size
  • Single spacing
  • Use italics for scientific names
  • English language
  • NO tables, graphs, headers/footers, references or acknowledgement, keywords (these will be removed by the conference organisers)
Paragraphs
  • Leave 1 blank line between paragraphs
  • Fully justified
  • Do not indent paragraphs
Presenting Author, Co-Authors & Institutions
  • All co-authors must be identified
  • Use full first name, followed by surname (eg. John Smith)
  • Underline name of presenting author
  • Use superscripts to identify authors to institutions

  The Title of the Abstract goes in Title Case, Bold Font with No Full Stop

Body of the abstract goes here. Max 300 words, min 200 words. Use Arial font in 9 point size. Single spacing - use italics for scientific names. Written in the English language.

 

Paragraphs should be fully justified and leave a blank line between paragraphs. Don't indent paragraphs.  Page set-up should be A4 size and use a MS Word Document file type.  Do not use tables, graphs, headers or footers, acknowledgements, references, keywords etc; these will automatically be removed.

Posters Discussion Sessions

Poster Discussion Sessions will be held during afternoon tea breaks on Saturday and Sunday.  On the day your poster has been scheduled, you are required to stand next to your poster/s and be available for informal discussions.

Posters will be grouped according to topic - the detailed Poster Discussion Schedule will be published here end-June.

Abstract Review Process

All Abstracts for posters will undergo a thorough peer review process prior to a decision being made.

Presenting Author

You are required to advise the conference organisers if someone else will present your poster instead.

Poster Set-Up

All posters should be on continuous display for the duration of the meeting.  Posters should be set-up either on:

Saturday 14 August.......................... 8.00am – 09:15 am

 All posters must be on display by 09:30 am Saturday 14 August.

 

To fix your poster to the velcro-compatible poster boards, you must supply your own:

  • Sufficient quantity of velcro dots/strips (note that Blu Tac, double-sided tape, thumb tacs or push pins will not be appropriate);
  • Approx 60 x A4-size handouts placed inside a clear plastic sleeve that you can attach using velcro dots to the foot of your poster board.

Poster Removal

Posters must not be removed before:

 Sunday 15 August:....................... 3:45 pm (end of afternoon tea break)

 It will be your responsibility to remove your poster and uncollected posters will be discarded by the venue.

 Poster Specifications

Posters should display the following:

  • Title of poster
  • Names of all authors, co-authors and affiliations
  • An introduction
  • A conclusion

The presentation of the poster should be simple, concise and visually attractive.

Graphs may be used but avoid using large tables of data.

 Posters should be portrait-shaped and should not be larger than the poster board.

(Note: poster boards are 1m wide x 2.4m high)
